EV Charging Stations: How do they work?
A charging station for electric vehicles, also known as an EV charger, is a device that charges electric vehicles such as cars and motorcycles. Charging stations come in a variety of shapes and sizes, ranging from the common wall-mounted type to charging stations built into the ground. They all, however, serve the same purpose: to charge electric vehicles.
How does it function?
To begin, you must connect your vehicle to a charging station. The charging station then sends electricity to your vehicle’s battery. Depending on the make and model of your vehicle, this could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 8 hours. When your car’s battery is fully charged, the charging station will turn off automatically.
Electric vehicle charging stations are classified into two types: Level 1 and Level 2
The most common type is level 1 charging stations. They connect to a standard 120-volt outlet and charge at a slower rate. A Level 1 charging station can charge most cars, but it will take longer to fully charge your car’s battery.
Level 2 charging stations charge vehicles at a faster rate than Level 1 charging stations. They plug into a 240-volt outlet, the same type of outlet used by ovens and dryers. Because not all vehicles can use a Level 2 charging station, check your owner’s manual before purchasing one.
A charging station is required regardless of the type of electric vehicle you own. They make charging your car simple and convenient, and they can be used at home or on the go.
